Perry told attendees at a Black History Month Mass in Douglaston Feb. 19.
Saying that he was ready to lay down his life for the people of Long Island, Bishop John O. Barres was installed Jan. 31 as the fifth Bishop of the Diocese of Rockville Centre.

It took longer than expected but the Vatican has appointed the new Bishop of Rockville Centre. Larchmont, N.Y.-native, Bishop John O. Barres, 56, who most recently served as Bishop of Allentown, Pa., succeeds Bishop William Murphy.
Three men, one from Ghana, one from Haiti and one from the Philippines, officially joined the ranks of the priesthood of the Diocese of Brooklyn on Feb. 24.
“Let us give thanks for the opportunity for our two dioceses to celebrate our ancestry together for the first time in so many years,” said Darcel Whitten-Wilamowski.
Mission accomplished! The two priests and three seminarians who set out to bicycle their way up the East Coast, from Florida to Long Island, have completed the route and are home safe and secure in the knowledge that their mission of pedalling vocations has been successful.
