St. Stan’s Battles Breast Cancer

Over 30 CYO teams from Brooklyn and Queens entered the “Battle Against Breast Cancer” tournament. All proceeds were donated to charity organizations researching breast cancer.

Helen Coyne, who started the girls’ Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) swimming program at St. Sebastian parish in Woodside, in 1965, died Oct. 14. She was 91.

Hoops Tourney Keeps Child’s Spirit Alive

From Oct. 2 to 21, Cathedral Prep and Seminary hosted the Colin Flood Hoops for Hope Memorial Basketball Tournament. Colin was an eight-year-old boy from Middle Village who passed away on June 22, 2014.

Scholarship Honors Late CYO Swim Coach

The Swim Strong Foundation, a local nonprofit organization that seeks to save lives through the sport of swimming, plans to establish a scholarship fund in honor of Helen Coyne, who passed away Oct. 14 at the age of 91.

Sports Round-Up Aug. 27

This summer marked the third time the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) of Brooklyn and Queens hosted a summer basketball league.

A total of 65 teams from 25 parishes participated, making this summer the largest since the league’s inception.
