A Summer Tradition Continues in Rockaway

For the 32nd summer, St. Francis de Sales parish, Belle Harbor, hosted its summer classic basketball tournament, which wrapped up Aug. 19.

The tournament started as a series of pick-up games in the mid-1980s but has now evolved into a staple in the Rockaways.

Encompassing age groups from 5 to 18, the classic is one of the largest basketball tournaments in New York City and always stays true to its motto: “After the beach, under the lights, on the clock…the tradition continues.” Here are the winners:

Women’s Open: Community House defeated GOAT

Girls High School: BHYC over Walter Blum’s Giants

Girls Grammar Senior: Rockaway Gliders downed Walsh Management

Boys High School: The Melons squashed JG Electrical Installations

Men’s Open: Kennedy’s won over NYCountry Swag

Grammar Boys Middle: Mullin Basketball Camp defeated RAM Abstract
