The first-ever Msgr. John J. Brown Memorial Girls Basketball Tournament wrapped up Martin Luther King Jr. weekend with some exciting hoops taking center court at St. Thomas Aquinas, Flatlands.

Hoops Tourney Honors Late Pastor’s Memory

Everyone who came in contact with Msgr. John Brown knew what a kind, caring and generous individual he was. As a result, the girls’ Msgr. King Tournament has been named in his honor.

CYO Swimmers Display Olympic Sportsmanship

At the annual boys’ swimming Olympics held Dec. 16 at the Eisenhower Park Aquatics Center, East Meadow, L.I., three swimmers displayed the values of what CYO sports are truly all about.

St. Thomas Aquinas was once again the site of the Msgr. King Basketball Tournament, played for the 49th time, Dec. 26-30, and featuring top boys’ varsity teams from New York City and beyond.

Katie Marquardt, a senior point guard on the Fontbonne Hall Academy, Bay Ridge, varsity basketball team, became the first player in the history of the Fontbonne basketball program to earn an athletic scholarship to play in college.

Three’s Company on St. Joan of Arc Track

It’s incredibly rare for two cross-country runners to finish with the exact same time in a race. It’s even more unusual for those two runners to be teammates. The only thing potentially even more outlandish than the above scenario would be if those same two runners to be twins. Well, believe it or not, it happened.
