Sports Round-Up May 19

The Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) will be hosting a fundraiser for Opening Day of the Brooklyn Cyclones 2018 season at MCU Park in Coney Island.

The Saturday, June 16 game will be played at 6:30 p.m. and will feature the Cyclones and New York-Penn League rival Staten Island Yankees.

A $20 ticket includes a field box seat, Cyclones cap, on-field pregame ceremony and fireworks show.

Additionally, this year’s CYO baseball diocesan champions will be awarded a team set of tickets to the game.

Msgr. McClancy H.S., East Elmhurst, hosted its 11th annual President’s Dinner May 5. Among this year’s honorees was Father Peter Rayder, pastor of St. Thomas More, Breezy Point.

Father Rayder attended St. Francis de Sales Elementary School, Belle Harbor, before moving on to McClancy. He played on the baseball team as a left-handed first baseman for the Crusaders in the 1970s.

Nicholas DiVittorio graduated from McClancy in 1998 and was a member of the school’s inaugural ice hockey team. He scored the first-ever goal in program history against rival Holy Cross H.S., Flushing. He currently volunteers as an assistant coach for McClancy’s team.

Other honorees included Fred Coltrinari and Frank Scahill.
