Even as enrollment in Catholic schools has declined nationwide, the Diocese of Brooklyn continues to see positive enrollment numbers in its schools. Registration within the diocese’s parish schools and Catholic academies has jumped 1,500 students compared to this time last year.
The Tablet subscriptions sold during the month-long campaign resulted in more than $30,000 going back into students’ and schools’ pockets. Those checks are finally in the process of being signed, sealed, and delivered to participating students across the Diocese of Brooklyn.
The Tablet is announcing the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place student grand prizewinners, plus the two school grand prize winners in the May 29 printed edition of The Tablet.
Anticipation is building as DeSales Media Group, the parent company of The Tablet, tallies up all of the subscriptions sold for the newspaper’s COVID Relief Fundraiser, which will soon put cash in the pockets of the students who sold them and their school.
The Diocese of Brooklyn will fully reopen its Catholic academies and parish schools for in-person learning again this fall. The diocese will also provide parents the option of enrolling their children in online-only instruction for the 2021-22 school year through the new St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Online Academy.
The 2021 Catholic Education’s Year of Renewal Summit celebrated the Diocese of Brooklyn’s resilience during the pandemic and encouraged further development of vibrant, rigorous religious education in local schools and faith formation programs.
The 2021 Catholic Education’s Year of Renewal Summit will be open to the public and take place virtually on April 21. The event will celebrate local school students, teachers, staff, and parish communities who have made Catholic education possible throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
Educator Helen Keller once said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” It’s a mantra that can be applied to the teams who work simultaneously at the Catholic Foundation for Brooklyn and Queens (CFBQ) and Futures in Education (FIE) for Brooklyn and Queens.
The Third Annual Great Diocesan Read-Aloud (GDRA) was another success across the Diocese of Brooklyn. Guest speakers, including authors, clergy members, first responders, and congresswomen, virtually visited 30 diocesan classes to read their favorite stories to the students.
Any principal will tell you it’s no easy feat to oversee daily operations, solve problems thrown their way, and make sure their schools are running at tip-top shape.
