Bishop ‘Iggy’: a Priest They Can’t Forget
The late Bishop “Iggy” Catanello was a very pastoral priest and bishop and people responded to his affection and many kindnesses. So it wasn’t surprising that a crowd turned out last weekend when Holy Family Council of the Knights of Columbus in Fresh Meadows officially changed its name to Holy Family – Bishop Ignatius Catanello Council.

The Third Annual Bishop Ignatius A. Catanello Memorial Dinner-Dance will be held on Saturday, March 12, at Immaculate Conception Pastoral Center, Douglaston. It will begin with Mass at 6 p.m. in the chapel.
Bishop Catanello’s Presence
Dear Editor: In reference to the recent listing of past auxiliary bishops (July 18), I wish to make mention of the late Bishop Ignatius Catanello’s comforting presence and spiritual enlightenment as he visited first responders at the NYC Medical Examiners Office after 9/11. He offered the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass under a tent, set up outside. His presence was most comforting as he reached out to comfort first responders deployed to a most challenging, but necessary assignment.
