This summer, from July 17 to Aug. 4, I was fortunate enough to participate in Google’s three-week intensive computer science program designed for 30 high-potential, incoming college freshmen, called the Computer Science Summer Institute (CSSI).

I participated in the ACIS Women’s Leadership Trip to the Dominican Republic with nine of my classmates from Fontbonne Hall Academy in Bay Ridge. This trip taught me leadership skills, teamwork and made me question how I could leave a lasting impact on the world through leading and educating.

On June 7, I had the wonderful opportunity of personally meeting New York City Police Commissioner James O’Neill and shadowing him for the day. This experience helped me realize that you can achieve any goal with a little hard work and perseverance.

Last year, I awarded Mrs. Diane Pocarro. She was not only my algebra teacher, but someone I trusted dearly. She is an amazing teacher who provided extensive help with algebra and situations outside the classroom. I jumped at the chance to thank her with an award.
