October is National Bullying Prevention Month and the peer leaders from Cristo Rey Brooklyn H.S., kicked off the month by greeting the student body and handing out orange ribbons to show awareness and support.

On the Feast of the Guardian Angels Oct. 2, the entire school celebrated Mass at the East Flatbush high school.

Former school chaplain, Father Dwayne Davis, was the celebrant and reminded the students that not all guardian angels are above, but some also walk among them, recalling a quote from St. Basil.

“We have guardian angels on earth too,” said Father Davis. “Look around you – your teachers, friends, and peer mentors are guardian angels. God knows I wouldn’t be here today without my guardian angels in heaven and earth.

Guardian Angel Prayers

“The world that we live in sometimes can be like a moral mine field. Our angels help us make it through this struggle. Do you ever take time out to thank or pray to your guardian angels?”

He also spoke about the heart of the matter.

“Especially in this anti-bullying month. Let’s call our guardian angels for the trust so that we can be better – better persons, friends, brothers, sisters, students, teachers and better members of the Cristo Rey Brooklyn family. If we are those things, then there would be no need for bullying.”
