Snows School Goes Crazy For A Cause

Things recently got a little crazy over at Our Lady of the Snows School, North Floral Park, but it was all in good fun for a good cause. The Student Council sponsored a sock drive and collected over 800 pairs of new socks, which were then donated to Hour Children and Providence House. Every student who donated a pair of socks was allowed to wear “crazy socks” for a day with their uniform. Student Council members show off their funky footwear above, from left, Vanessa Cantos, co-president; Susan Jacob, secretary; Christy Thomas, treasurer; Claire Lehane, co-president and Jeff John, vice-president.

The works of Isamu Noguchi, who patented the baby monitor and the kitchen timer, is the subject of the latest exhibit at the Geoffrey Yeh Art Gallery at St. John’s University, Jamaica.

“Isamu Noguchi, Patent Holder: Designing the World of Tomorrow,” was developed in response to a borough-wide call to celebrate the 75th and 50th anniversaries of the two Queens World’s Fairs of 1939- 40 and 1964-65.

The display is an expand- ed version of the exhibit originally housed at the Noguchi Museum, Queens, and surveys the symbiotic relationship in Noguchi’s work between sculpture and design leading up to the 1939 World’s Fair, as well as beyond this period.

The exhibit is free and currently open to the public. It will run through March 19.

For gallery hours, call 718-990-7476.
