Sister Ave Clark, O.P., is starting the new year by inviting the women of Brooklyn and Queens to a special mini brunch retreat for women on Jan. 24 at American Martyrs Church, Bayside. The two-hour event begins at 10 a.m. in Sullivan Hall and the theme is: “One More Gift to Open and Use Generously.” Sister Ave will present the retreat with Paula Santoro. Want to make the world a better place this year? Join the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants for their next pro-life Mass and prayer vigil on Saturday, Jan. 17. Meet at St. Mary’s Church, Long Island City, for 7:30 a.m. Mass (getting up early is part of the sacrifice) and then join the Helpers as they peacefully pray the rosary outside a new Planned Parenthood building in the neighborhood.
This week’s Tip of the Tablet TALK Top Hat goes to the school community at St. Bernadette, Dyker Heights, for its participation in the Olivia Boccuzzi Foundation Toy Drive during Advent. Frank and Enza Boccuzzi, parents of James, a second grader, lost their two- year-old daughter Olivia Marie to brain cancer in 2013. The toys collected by the students, below, and faculty were given to children fight- ing cancer. Way to go!
Gift-Giving in Bensonhurst
During Advent, the Our Lady of Guadalupe School community, Bensonhurst, joined in prayer and song to celebrate its decades-old Gift-Giving Day tradition. Hundreds of wrapped packages were brought in procession by students and faculty, and presented to the sponsoring Student Council officers and representatives. The program provides toys and clothing to children at Our Lady of Mercy, Brownsville, and St. Michael-St. Malachy, E. New York. Msgr. Robert J. Romano, pastor, praised students for their willingness to share. Principal Sister Dolores F. Crepeau, C.S.J., thanked students for being considerate of others.
