Lithuanian Bishop Visits Williamsburg
Auxiliary Bishop Kestutis Kevalas of the Archdiocese of Kaunas, Lithuania, visited the Lithuanian community of Annunciation parish, Williamsburg, on Jan. 18 to commemorate Lithuanian Defenders of Freedom Day. Bishop Kevalas concelebrated a solemn Mass and welcomed new members of the Lithuanian Catholic Youth Organization “Ateitis,” which arranged for the bishop’s visit to Williamsburg. Also present was newly appointed Consul General of the Republic of Lithuania Julius Pranevicius. Successful Barry Club Social
The Commodore Barry Club held its annual social and dance at St. Patrick’s auditorium, Fort Hamilton, last fall. Members and guests danced to Irish and also international tunes played by Frank Keegan and Mary D.

Filmmaker Callum Macrae will be on hand to discuss human rights advocacy when the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting hosts a free screening of his documentary, “No Fire Zone: The Killing Fields of Sri Lanka,” at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, Manhattan, on Feb. 2, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
“No Fire Zone” sheds light on the military offensive in the final months of the 26-year Sri Lankan civil war, documenting war crimes, summary execution, torture and sexual violence with direct evidence recorded by both victims and perpetrators on mobile phones and cameras.
