The Christian churches of Howard Beach joined together on Jan. 19 in celebration of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Tuesday, Feb. 2 is the Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord, commonly called “Candlemas Day.” It is the custom for candles to be blessed on that day for use in church and at home. Bring candles to Mass that day for a special blessing.

Tickets are on sale now for when Maggie’s Little Theater, Middle Village, presents Ken Ludwig’s farce “Lend Me a Tenor!” in St. Margaret Church’s parish hall.

Catholic Schools Week officially opens this Sunday, Jan. 31. At St. Rose of Lima, Rockaway Beach, Msgr. James Spengler, pastor emeritus, will be honored at the 9:30 a.m. Mass. All are welcome to attend.

As part of its Catholic Schools Week festivities, St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Academy, Greenpoint, will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony and dedication of its brand-new, state-of-the-art STEM Lab on Feb. 1.

John O’Brien, principal of Good Shepherd Catholic Academy, Marine Park, will be the speaker at a Lenten Evening of Reflection, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Center, Douglaston.
