What’s cookin’ this summer in Greenpoint?

The Friars of San Damiano Mission have teamed up with restaurateurs Josh Cohen and Mark Rancourt (of Extra Fancy) to present Holy Smoke NYC, a pop-up barbecue taco joint, open Saturdays and Sundays in the church courtyard, 2-9 p.m., all summer long.

Proceeds will benefit the restoration of a historic pipe organ at the mission.

Bishop Thomas E. Savundaranayagam, bishop emeritus of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, will celebrate the feast of St. Anthony of Padua with the Tamil Rosary Prayer Group at Our Lady of Lourdes, Queens Village, June 19.

Muslims worldwide are observing Ramadan, and in Brooklyn, local adherents will gather with Catholic and Jewish neighbors for an Interfaith Iftar at the East Midwood Jewish Center on June 21.

An iftar is the meal Muslims share with family and friends after their daily Ramadan fast at sunset.

This community iftar is being coordinated in part by Our Lady of Refuge parish, Flatbush. All are welcome to arrive by 7:30 p.m. for Jewish evening prayers and Muslim prayers followed by a shared meal and fellowship.

Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens’ Office of Bereavement Services will host “How to Help Children Deal with the Death of a Loved One,” a workshop especially for children and their families on June 30.

Students, faculty, parents and local business sponsors helped St. Mark Catholic Academy in Sheepshead Bay, raise over $11,000 through its Walk-a-Thon fundraiser. The money will be used to enhance the security system at the school.

This week’s Tip of the Tablet TALK Top Hat goes to three Queens residents who were recognized with Queens Impact Awards from the TimesLedger community newspaper last month.

They are: Sister Catherine Feeney, S.S.N.D., executive director of the SSND Educational Center in Woodhaven; Ed Wendell president of the Woodhaven Historical Society, who serves on the SSND Educational Center’s board of trustees, and Anne Forde, math department chair at St. Agnes Academic H.S., College Point, and adjunct professor at St. John’s University, Jamaica.

These individuals are among 25 “unsung heroes of Queens” who make the borough “a far better and kinder place to live,” according to the TimesLedger website.
