Blessed Food to Break the Fast

In preparation for Easter, Polish families brought the food they would share on Resurrection morning to church on Holy Saturday. The pastor of St. Stanislaus Kostka parish in Greenpoint, Marek Sobczak C.M., blessed the Easter baskets in a dedicated liturgy.

“The Lord said to me, ‘The loss of each soul plunges Me into mortal sadness. You always console Me when you pray for sinners. The prayer most pleasing to Me is prayer for the conversion of sinners. Know, My daughter, that this prayer is always heard and answered.’” – Sister M. Faustina Kowalska from her “Diary: Divine Mercy in My Soul.”

April 28 is Divine Mercy Sunday when God promised special graces to any sinner who would turn to His Mercy. “Let no soul fear to draw to Me, even though its sin be as scarlet,” Jesus told St. Fuastina. Complete forgiveness of sin and punishment is given to those who go to confession and receive communion. Learn more online at https://www.thedivinemercy.org/celebrate/greatgrace/dms.php.

Final Spiritual Preparations for Easter

St. Frances de Chantal, Borough Park, kept its doors open on Holy Saturday from 9 a.m. until after 3 p.m. to allow people to come in to make final preparations for the celebration of Easter. During that time, a liturgy of blessing of the food was offered every hour on the hour. The priests reminded the people that it is important to remember their roots and share their joy with family over the traditional Easter morning breakfast, but it is not enough. The liturgy and Risen Christ must be part of their lives.
