A record 1,247 people attended St. John’s University’s annual President’s Dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria, Manhattan. Father Joseph L. Levesque, C.M., university president, presided over the event, which raised more than $2 million for the eighth consecutive year. Proceeds benefit student scholarships. Celebrate the feast of St. Andrew Avellino, patron of Naples and Sicily and protector against sudden death, at the only church named in his honor in the U.S.
Auxiliary Bishop Paul Sanchez will celebrate 10:30 a.m. Mass on Nov. 10 at St. Andrew Avellino Church, Flushing, in observance of the parish’s patronal feast day and 100th anniversary year.
Selections will include the hymn, “Great Andrew Avellino,” which was composed in 1943 by the late parish organist Charles Harmon. The lyrics were penned by the late Dominican Sister Helen Whelan, then known as Sister Camillus, O.P. 
A relic of St. Andrew Avellino will be available for veneration after the Mass. Call 718-359-0417.

Music is in the air this time of year…
Jen Tao, a graduate student at Manhattan School of Music majoring in piano, will present Schubert “Drei Klavierstücke” D. 946, and Brahms’ Intermezzi, Op. 117 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Forest Hills, Nov. 15, 7:30 p.m. All proceeds will be used toward the restoration of the piano in the parish sanctuary. Meanwhile in Bay Ridge, The Rhapsody Players will perform the greatest songs of the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s and ’80s in an intimate cabaret-style setting at St. Patrick Catholic Academy, Nov. 16, 7:30 p.m. Admission is $25, including pizza, coffee and dessert from Leske’s Bakery. Reservations required.
