To learn about international peace efforts, students from Fontbonne Hall Academy, Bay Ridge, went straight to the source.

The leaders-in-training traveled to the United Nations headquarters in Manhattan with their campus minister,  Jennifer Uzzi-Silverio. They attended the  Feb. 14 conference titled “United for a Culture of Peace through Interfaith Harmony.” The conference was a follow-up to the United Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week, an annual event established by a UN resolution in 2010.

Students had the opportunity to listen to speeches presented by His Excellency Vuk Jeremic, president of the UN General Assembly, and Dr. Patrick Ho, secretary general of the China Energy Fund Committee. The topic of Dr. Ho’s speech was, “For peace to prevail on earth, peace must first prevail in our hearts.” The invitation to this conference was extended by UNESCO and the Committee of Religious NGOs at the United Nations.
