Christopher Mecir, Nicholas Zecca and Marc Pavich, seventh graders and members of the Aquinas Society at St. Mel’s School, Flushing, recently had the privilege of touring the N.Y.C. Office of Emergency Management’s headquarters in Brooklyn. They had the chance to meet Jake Cooper, deputy commissioner, and learn about super-storm preparedness for future disasters that could affect the city. Cooper offered the students an in-depth look at how various agencies work together to keep the city running in a crisis. The boys will use what they learned to prepare a presentation on different aspects and impacts of Hurricane Sandy at the Aquinas Expo next month.
