The robotics team at St. Edmund Prep H.S., Sheepshead Bay, volunteered at the Boy Scouts of America’s Brooklyn Merit Badge and Training Expo that was held at Our Lady of Grace parish, Gravesend.
Students donated equipment and spent the day helping Boy Scouts build and program their robots in order to earn partial and full robotics merit badges.
While the high school’s robotics team has been around for more than five years, Fine Arts teacher and team moderator Erica Barbieri said the program is in the process of seeking funding and sponsors for various programs.
“We offer a summer program called ‘Robo Camp’ which allows STEAM-based activities such as Lego robotics and various hands-on projects that incorporate science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics for up to two weeks in the summer,” said Barbieri.
The team is planning to host a free workshop at the high school in the spring for Boy Scouts who wish to complete their robotics merit badges.
