A handful of St. John’s University, Jamaica, current and former men’s basketball players are trying their hand at playing professional hoops around the world.

Small forward Moe Harkless was recently traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. He spent the first three seasons of his NBA career with the Orlando Magic before playing the past four seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers.

For his career, he’s averaged 7.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. Guard Shamorie Ponds, the standout player from last season’s NCAA Tournament team, is playing with the Houston Rockets in the NBA Summer League in hopes of making the team’s roster for the upcoming
season.

He led the Red Storm with 19.7 points, 5.1 assists and 2.6 steals per game — good enough for top five in the Big East in all three categories. While Ponds suits up for the Rockets, guard Justin Simon is playing this summer for the Chicago Bulls.

Simon spent his two-year college career in Queens and was named the 2018-2019 Big East Defensive Player of the Year.

Finally, two players will be representing their country in the upcoming Pan Am Games, to be played July 31 through Aug. 4 in Lima, Peru. Guard Mustapha Heron will play for the U.S., while guard/forward L.J. Figueroa will play for the Dominican Republic.
