Msgr. McClancy H.S., East Elmhurst, is set to induct the 2017 class into its Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 21. This year’s class includes Woody Bonhomme, ’94 (track and field), Matt Connolly, ’86 (baseball), Greg Hardin, ’94 (basketball) and Dave Sucic, ’89 (track and field). For the first time ever, the school will be honoring a team, the 1976 varsity city bowling team, which won the first city championship in school history. Team members include John De Stefano, ’76, Jim Doolan, ’76, Bill Gandolfi, ’76, Joe Rocco, ’76, Gerry Savino, ’76, Paul Schkrutz, ’76, Rich Towers, ’76, John Turrisi ,’77, Peter Varcos, ’76, and Coach Andrew Taddei.
Matt Wessinger, a former standout infielder at St. John’s University, Jamaica, has been named the assistant baseball coach at Hofstra University, Hempstead, L.I. He spent the 2017 season as a volunteer coach at St. John’s.
