Sports Round-Up Nov. 11

Reminder! Anthony Iapoce, the hitting coach of the Texas Rangers, will be hosting the inaugural New York Baseball Coaches Clinic on Dec. 10, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Division Avenue H.S., Levittown, L.I.

Iapoce, a product of St. Joseph’s parish, Astoria, and Msgr. McClancy H.S., East Elmhurst, played nine seasons in the minor leagues and just completed his second season as Rangers’ hitting coach.

In addition to New York Yankees third base coach Joe Espada giving a presentation, recent McClancy graduate and 2017 Cleveland Indians MLB draft pick Quentin Holmes will answer questions about the game.

The clinic covers all aspects of baseball – including hitting, pitching, fielding, catching, base running and the mental side of the game – and is open to coaches, parents and players.

Tom Hackimer, a product of Archbishop Molloy H.S., Briarwood, and St. John’s University, Jamaica, has enjoyed success on the mound this fall for the Surprise Saguaros, the Arizona Fall League affiliate of the Minnesota Twins.

In his first six games, he has recorded seven strikeouts in 7.2 innings while pitching to a 3.52 ERA out of the bullpen.

The New Hyde Park, L.I., native was selected by the Twins in the fourth round of the 2016 MLB draft. He was a 2012 Tablet All-Star as a shortstop for Molloy.
