Chris DiStefano, a 2006 graduate of St. Joseph’s College Brooklyn, Clinton Hill, was inducted Jan. 21 into the Bears Athletic Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place on Alumni and Family Day during halftime of the St. Joe’s matchup with the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, L.I.
Over his four-year career on the school’s men’s basketball team, he averaged 15.4 pts. per game. His 1,865 total points ranks him second on the Bears’ all-time scoring list.
DiStefano is more known now as a comedian, having appeared on MTV, Comedy Central, IFC and Netflix.
This year’s Rose Classic Super Jam took place Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend at Nazareth H.S., East Flatbush, and Canarsie H.S. The event serves as a showcase for local players to display their skills in front of college coaches.
A number of local GCHSAA teams participated in the event, including Nazareth; The Mary Louis Academy, Jamaica Estates; Bishop Loughlin H.S., Fort Greene; Xaverian H.S., Bay Ridge; Archbishop Molloy H.S., Briarwood; Msgr. McClancy H.S., East Elmhurst; and St. Joseph’s H.S., Downtown Brooklyn.
Kania Pollock, a senior guard on The Mary Louis Academy, Jamaica Estates, basketball team, scored her 1,000th career point on Jan. 20. She will be attending Manhattan College this fall on a basketball scholarship.
