Six priests of the diocese are celebrating their 25th anniversary of ordination. Fathers Richard Conlon, Richard Long and Joseph Vu were ordained by Bishop Thomas V. Daily on June 2, 1990, in the chapel at Immaculate Conception Pastoral Center, Douglaston.
It was the first class ordained for the diocese by Bishop Daily, who earlier that year had been named Bishop of Brooklyn. Bishop Emeritus Francis J. Mugavero also was present at the ordination.
One member of the class – Father Daniel Weiscopf – died last year.

Father Anthony S. Chanan, an assistant at St. Joan of Arc, Jackson Heights, is a native of Pakistan.
Born in Okara, he attended Christ the King Seminary, Karachi. He was ordained in Falsalabad by Bishop John Joseph on Oct. 5, 1990.
In the Diocese of Brooklyn, he has served at St. Ann, Flushing, 1996-2002; St. Kevin, Flushing, 2002-06; and St. Joan of Arc, since 2006.
He is the former director of the Pakistani Apostolate.
He was incardinated into the Brooklyn Diocese in 2007.
Father Richard Conlon, pastor of St. Teresa of Avila-St. Anthony of Padua, South Ozone Park, plans a family celebration with parishioners and friends.
Born in Glendale, Father Conlon attended Sacred Heart School, East Glendale; Cathedral Prep, Elmhurst; Cathedral College, Douglaston; St. Francis College, Brooklyn; and Immaculate Conception Seminary, Huntington.
He served as an assistant at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, Forest Hills, 1990-95; St. Cecilia’s, Greenpoint, 1995-2000; and Blessed Sacrament, Jackson Heights, 2000-10.
He was named administrator of Mary’s Nativity, Flushing, in 2011 and served there for one year until being named pastor of St. Teresa of Avila-St. Anthony of Padua.
Father John Francis,
pastor of St. Nicholas of Tolentine, Jamaica, since 2014, will celebrate a Mass of thanksgiving at the church on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 12:15 p.m.
Born in Anthonyabad, Pakistan, he attended St. Albert the Great H.S., Gojra; St. Thomas the Apostle Minor Seminary, and Christ the King Seminary, Karachi. He was ordained by Bishop John Joseph in Falsalabad, on Oct. 5, 1990.
He was assigned to St. Thomas Seminary and then was sent to Rome for graduate studies at Urban University, where he earned a doctorate in biblical theology.
Upon his return, he became vice rector of the minor seminary in Faisalabad.
He has served in the Brooklyn Diocese as an assistant at St. Ann’s, Flushing, summer of 1999; St. Sebastian, Woodside, 1999-2003; and St. Thomas the Apostle, Woodhaven, 2008-14. He was coordinator of the Pakistani Apostolate, from 2003 to 2009.
He was incardinated into the Brooklyn Diocese on Oct. 5, 2007.
Father Jean-Augustin Francois, a parochial vicar at St. Matthew’s, Crown Heights, will celebrate a Mass of thanksgiving at Holy Family Church, Canarsie, on Sunday, May 24, at 4 p.m. A reception will follow immediately after Mass.
Born in Limbe, Haiti, he attended the Freres de I’Instruction Chretienne, Limbe; College Notre Dame, Cap Haitien; the major seminary in Port-au-Prince. He was ordained in Haiti on May 6, 1990.
He served as a parish priest at St. Martin, Dondon, Haiti, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1991.
In the Brooklyn Diocese, he has served at Sacred Heart, Cambria Heights, 1991-99; St. Therese of Lisieux, East Flatbush, 19992003; Holy Family, Canarsie, 2004-14; and now St. Matthew’s.
Father Richard E. Long, Newman chaplain at Brooklyn College, is a native of Manhattan.
He attended St. Mary’s H.S., Paducah, Ky.; the University of Kentucky; NYU; and Immaculate Conception Seminary, Huntington.
He served as an assistant at St. Therese of Lisieux, East Flatbush, 1990-94; St. Brendan, Midwood, 1994-99; St. Athanasius, Bensonhurst, 1999-2005; and St. Joseph, Astoria, 2005-06.
In 2006, he began his campus ministry at Brooklyn College. He resides at St. Cecilia’s rectory, Greenpoint.
Fr. Joseph T. Vu, a parochial vicar at St. Fidelis parish, College Point, will celebrate a Mass of thanksgiving at St. Fidelis Church on Sunday, June 14, at 11:45 a.m.
A native of Phuc Nhac, Vietnam, who immigrated to the U.S. in 1975, Father Vu first settled in Missouri.
He attended Dong Cong H.S.; SW Missouri University; and Immaculate Conception Seminary, Huntington.
He served as an assistant at St. Ann, Flushing, 1990-95; St. Anselm, Bay Ridge, 1995-2005; and has served at St. Fidelis since 2005.
How can they be celebrating 25 years if ordained by Bishop Thomas V. Daily on June 2, 1995? It does not add up! Btw, how about us deacons who were ordained by Bishop Mugavaro over 25 years ago. My ordination date was April 25, 1987! We are still alive and serving, although now in Pennsylvania!
