Sister Veronica McCormack, F.d.L.S, a Brooklyn native and a member of the Daughters of Wisdom for 66 years, died on Aug. 28 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Convent in Sound Beach, L.I. She was 86.
She served as director of religious education at St. Catherine of Genoa for 19 years. Earlier, she served at Brooklyn Haitian Ralph and Good Shepherd Center, where she taught Haitian refugees and others seeking to obtain GED degrees. She was the leader of a charismatic renewal prayer group at St. Mary Gate of Heaven, Ozone Park, where she began her teaching career at the parish school.
Sister Veronica also worked in schools in Virginia and Maine.
Born in Bay Ridge, she attended the former Bishop McDonnell Memorial H.S., Fort Greene. She earned a bachelor’s of science degree in education from St. John’s University, Jamaica, and a master’s in education/reading specialist from Boston College.
