Sister William Marie Selzer, O.P.

Sister William Marie Selzer, O.P., a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic, Congregation of the Holy Cross, Amityville, for 66 years, died on Dec. 18. She was 85.

In the Diocese of Brooklyn, Sister William Marie taught at Good Shepherd School in Brooklyn and Dominican Commercial H.S., her alma mater, in Jamaica.

Born in the Bronx, Sister William Marie entered the novitiate at Queen of the Rosary Motherhouse in Amityville, L.I., in 1952 from her home parish of St. Mary Magdalen, Springfield Gardens. She professed her first vows in 1954 and final vows in 1957.

Sister William Marie earned a bachelor’s degree in business education from St. John’s University, Jamaica, and a master’s in counselor education from Post/Long Island University.

In addition to her work in the diocese, Sister William Marie served at several schools in Long Island.

Her funeral Mass was offered on Dec. 28 at St. Albert Chapel in Amityville. Burial followed in the sisters’ cemetery.
