Sister Therese Ezelius, O.P., a longtime teacher and religious education director in Brooklyn and Long Island and a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Amityville for 57 years, died on May 17 at the sisters’ motherhouse in Amityville. She was 75.
Sister Therese grew up in Ozone Park, where she attended St. Teresa of Avila’s elementary school. She went to Dominican Commercial H.S., Jamaica, and after graduation, she entered the novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of Amityville. She professed her final vows in 1963. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Molloy College in Rockville Centre, L.I., and a master’s degree in teaching from St. Michael College in Vermont.
After serving for more than a decade in the Diocese of Rockville Centre, she served as the director or religious education at Blessed Virgin Mary of Help of Christians, Woodside, 1977-81, and at St. Ephrem’s, Dyker Heights, 1981-89.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on May 21 at St. Albert Chapel, Queen of the Rosary Motherhouse, Amityville. Burial in the sisters’ cemetery followed the Mass.
