Sister Margaret

Sister Margaret Mary Hannon, S.C., (Sister Marie Daniel) a member of the New York Sisters of Charity for 75 years, died March 4 at Kittay House, Bronx.

Born in Manhattan, she attended the College of Mount St. Vincent and received her master’s degree in American and European History from St. John’s University. She later earned permanent certification in teaching English as a second language.

In the Diocese of Brooklyn, she taught at St. Stephen, Carroll Gardens, 1939-41; St. Gabriel, East Elmhurst, 1941-45; St. Paul, Cobble Hill, 1945-52; and Bishop McDonnell H.S., Crown Heights, 1952-62, and 1969-70.

She retired in 1999 and moved to the Convent of Mary the Queen in 2000. In 2014, she was among the first group of sisters to move to the Jewish Home Lifecare Assisted Living Program.

A Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at Mount St. Vincent Convent Assembly Room. Burial was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Yonkers.
