Sister Leonard Marie Lichinchi, C.S.J.

Sister Leonard Marie Lichinchi, C.S.J., a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph for 76 years, died on Feb. 28 while she was in hospice care at Sacred Heart Convent in Hempstead, L.I.

She entered the congregation from St. Mary’s Parish, Long Island City, in 1944. She earned a bachelor’s of science degree in education from Rivier College in Nashua, N.H., a master’s in education from Brooklyn College and a master’s in theology from St. John’s University, Jamaica.

Her ministries included the following: Mary’s Nativity, Flushing, 1946; St. Francis of Assisi, Prospect Leffert Gardens, 1946-50; Our Lady of Victory, Bedford-Stuyvesant, 1950-59; St. Anne, Brentwood, L.I., 1957-59; Visitation, Red Hook, 1959-62; Epiphany, Williamsburg, 1962; Immaculate Conception, Brooklyn, 1962-64; Our Lady of Perpetual Help H.S., Sunset Park, 1964-71; Brooklyn Diocesan office, 1971-72; St. Michael, Sunset Park, 1972-73; St. Vincent de Paul, Elmont, L.I., 1973-75; Holy Name of Mary, Valley Stream, L.I., 1975-77; St. Robert Bellarmine, Bayside, 1977-81; Our Lady of the Snows, North Floral Park, 1981, 1984, 1989; St. Charles Jubilee, Brooklyn Heights, 1989-92; Maria Regina Residence, 1993; Academy of St. Joseph, Brentwood, 1993-96; and Brentwood Education Center, 1996.
