Sister Katherine Mary Hanrahan, C.S.J., a Sister of St. Joseph, Brentwood, for 55 years, died in the Mary Manning Walsh Home, Manhattan, Dec. 28.
She entered the congregation in 1963 from St. Michael’s parish, Flushing. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Brentwood College, a bachelor’s in English literature from Hunter College and a master’s in administration and supervision from Fordham University.
Formerly known as Sister Regina Cecilia, her ministries included Queen of Peace, Kew Gardens, 1968-69; St. Benedict Joseph Labre, Richmond Hill, 1969-70, and Sacred Heart Seminary, Hempstead, L.I., 1973-75. For three years, she taught at Academia Santa Maria in Ponce, Puerto Rico, 1970-73.
She served as principal at St. Agnes Seminary, Marine Park; St. Teresa of Avila, Prospect Heights, and for many years at Our Lady of Sorrows, Corona.
She was a member of the Brooklyn Ecumenical Cooperative Executive Committee, 1984-90; assisted with RCIA for Children, 1998-2000 and served on the board of directors for the Catholic School Administrators of NYS, 1997-2000.
