Sister Jean Redigan, O.S.U. (Sr. Mary Gabrielle) 87, died Sept. 5, at Maria Regina Residence, Brentwood. She entered the Congregation of the Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk in 1949 and professed her final vows six years later.

She taught at St. William the Abbot, Seaford, 1954-60; Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Ozone Park, 1960-61 and 1964-66. She also served her community as Assistant Mistress of Novices, 1961-64.

She served as principal at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 1966-1969, and St. William the Abbot, 1969-75. She returned to serve her community again as Assistant Provincial,1975-78, then Provincial Superior from 1978 to 1988.

After her time in leadership, she served as the Director of Religious Education and parish minister at St. Mary of the Isle, Long Beach, 1988-90. In 1990, she became principal at Our Lady of Hope School, Middle Village, serving until her retirement in 2009.
