Sister Geraldine

Sister Geraldine Cregg, C.S.J., a Sister of St. Joseph, Brentwood, for 58 years, died in St. Ann’s Convent, Flushing, July 18.

Raised in Holy Name of Jesus parish in Windsor Terrace, she attended the parish school and Bay Ridge H.S., before entering the congregation. In 1966 she obtained a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Brentwood College.

Formerly known as Sister Frances Geraldine, she taught in St. Rita’s parish, Long Island City, 1962-66, and St. Pascal Baylon, St. Albans, 1966-69.

In 1969 she began her ministry at St. Ann’s in Flushing, which continued through 2009. She served as CCD principal, lector and extraordinary minister of Holy Communion at both the parish and a local hospital.

In retirement, she volunteered at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Academy in Flushing.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Ann Church, July 22. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery, Brentwood.
