Sister Florence Theresa Dippold, C.S.J., a Sister of St. Joseph, Brentwood, for 68 years, died at Maria Regina Residence, Brentwood, Dec. 1.
Born in Valley Stream, she attended The Mary Louis Academy, Jamaica Estates. Upon graduation, she entered the congregation from Our Lady of Lourdes parish, Malverne, L.I., in 1949.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in English from St. Francis College, Brooklyn Heights, 1970; a master’s degree in secondary education from St. John’s University, Jamaica, 1974, and certification in pastoral care from the National Association of Catholic Chaplains in 1982.
Formerly known as Sister George Marilla, she taught at Our Lady of Lourdes in Bushwick, 1951-52; St. Michael, Brooklyn, 1952-54; St. Robert Bellarmine, Bayside, 1954-58; St. Rose of Lima in Parkville, 1958-59; St. Athanasius in Bensonhurst, 1959-61; St. Vincent de Paul, Williamsburg, 1961-65; St. Mary Star of the Sea, Far Rockaway, 1965-69 and St John the Evangelist, Park Slope, 1969-70.
In 1970, she began teaching at St. Michael, Flushing, and spent seven years there before moving onto St. Rita, East New York, 1977-79, and Our Lady of the Angelus, Rego Park, 1979-80.
After nearly 30 years of teaching, she began her ministry as a chaplain at Catholic Medical Center, Jamaica, 1980-82, and Mary Immaculate Hospital, Flushing, 1993-2006. She retired in 2006.
Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Brentwood.
