Sister Dorothy Marie Schnell, C.S.J., formerly Sister Miriam Walter a Sister of St. Joseph, Brentwood, for 66 years, died March 8 at the Maria Regina Residence in Brentwood.
She received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Science from St. Francis College and Fordham University.
She received a master’s degree in Theology/Liturgy from the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception and certification in Spanish from Molloy College Spanish Institute.
Her ministries in the diocese included Blessed Sacrament, Cypress Hills, 1963–65 and 1973-74; St. Teresa of Avila, Crown Heights, 1965–70; Bethel House of Prayer, Brentwood, 1970–73; Holy Name, Windsor Terrace, 1974–77; and St. Anthony H.S., Huntington, 1977–1979.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in Maria Regina Chapel, March 13. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery, Brentwood.
