Sister Dolores Spinner, R.S.M., 85, a Sister of Mercy of the Americas Mid-Atlantic Community for 63 years, died Sept. 24, at Flushing Hospital.
She attended St. Ephrem School, Dyker Heights, and St. Joseph’s Commercial H.S., Downtown Brooklyn.
She entered the Mercy Novitiate in Syosset, L.I., in February of 1955, and professed final vows in September of 1960.
She ministered at Angel Guardian Home, Bensonhurst, 1957-60; St. Mary’s Home, Syosset, 1960-61; the Convent of Mercy, Fort Greene, 1961-62; and Mercy Home for Children, 1962-75.
Under the auspices of Mercy Home for Children, she served as supervisor, 1975-77; director, 1978-89; union liaison, 1980-2004, and director of Santulli Residence, 1989-2004.
She is survived by her sister, Marie Warnock of Virginia.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in the Sisters of Mercy Convent, Whitestone. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn.
She was a childhood friend of my mother, Ruth Campbell Keenan, who grew up at 1065 82nd St, Dyker Heights,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, St. Bernadette’s Parish. . I believe the Spinners lived on 12th Avenue, two doors in, left of 82nd St. Both my mother and her family, along with Sr. Delores’ siblings also attended St. Ephrem’s school.
