Dear Editor: I read in your Jan. 14 issue of the death of Sister Bernadette Downes, C.I.J.. I remember how much Sister Bernadette and her work helped my son, Peter, who had Down Syndrome, back in the 1970s.

For several summers, Peter attended the summer day camp for people with disabilities that Sister Bernadette started. My six other children worked as volunteers at the day camp and recruited many of their high school friends too.

Sister Bernadette was a wonderful person, and an inspiration to many.
