Sister Ave Maria Maickel, C.S.J., a Sister of St. Joseph, Brentwood, L.I., for 71 years, died Feb. 26 at Maria Regina Residence, Brentwood, L.I.

She entered the congregation in 1946 from Our Lady of Victory parish in Floral Park, L.I.

She taught at St. Patrick, Long Island City, 1948-50; Immaculate Conception, Jamaica, 1950-52; Holy Cross, Flatbush, 1952-58; St. Michael, Sunset Park, 1958-61; Holy Name of Jesus, Park Slope, 1961-62; St. Francis Xavier, Park Slope, 1962-67; and Transfiguration in Williamsburg, 1967-68.

From 1968 to 2015 she served in various capacities in St. Joseph Convent, Brentwood, as a clerical assistant, secretary, assistant superior and superior.

Poor health necessitated a move to Maria Regina Residence two years ago.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Brentwood.
