Forty-five School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND) from nine provinces around the world will gather Sept. 26 through Oct. 24 in Marriottsville, Md., for the 24th general chapter of the congregation.
The Atlantic-Midwest Province, whose headquarters is in Baltimore, is hosting the event. The theme of this chapter is “Trust and Dare. Content with little, we joyfully direct our entire lives toward that oneness for which Jesus Christ was sent.”
The purpose of this meeting is two-fold: to give direction to the life and mission of the congregation for the future and to elect the general superior and the general councilors who will serve for a term of six years.
Blessed M. Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger founded the congregation of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1833 in Bavaria. Today, it is an international congregation of apostolic women religious in community, with more than 2,500 sisters serving in 30 countries on five continents. Their mission is to deepen communion with God and among all people.
