Richmond Hill Memoirs

Dear Editor: Great article! (125 Years of Faith in Richmond Hill, May 13.)

My family moved to Richmond Hill in 1944 as the Long Island Railroad went underground. My two older brothers, Charles and Paul and I all attended St. Benny’s school. I eventually graduated and attended Regis High School, St. Francis College and Fordham Law School!

I delivered The Tablet at eight years of age from 111th Street to Van Wyck Expressway! I was an altar boy from eight years of age to 17, and was the youngest member of the parish’s St. Vincent DePaul Society.

It was a great parish and whenever anyone ever asked you where you were from, it was, “I’m from St. Benny’s parish!

Congratulations to all in the parish!
