A relic of St. Damien of Molokai, revered for his ministry among the victims of Hansen’s disease (leprosy) in Hawaii, will be available for public veneration in the Brooklyn Diocese on three occasions in November:
• Friday, Nov. 4, 7-10 p.m., St. James Cathedral-Basilica, Downtown Brooklyn;
• Sunday, Nov. 6, 1:30 p.m., St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church, Jamaica; and
• Sunday, Nov. 13, 2-5 p.m., Queen of Peace Residence, Queens Village.
On each date, the program will include benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, a one-act play on Father Damien, and public veneration of the relic, which is a piece of bone from the foot of St. Damien.
Father James Sweeney will play the role of Father Damien in Aldyth Morris’ “Damien.”  No video or audio taping of the presentation will be permitted.
Brooklyn priest Father Ray Roden will travel to Hawaii to pick up the relic.  It will be returned to Honolulu’s Bishop Larry Silva while he is visiting Baltimore in late November.
