Dear Editor: It has been widely reported that the Pope considers the purposeful acquisition of substantial wealth to be “the dung of the devil.”
Inspired by such uplifting imagery – and in an attempt to avoid even the appearance of hypocrisy – should we not assume that he will shortly announce that the Vatican’s art treasures and the Church’s worldwide real estate holdings will be auctioned off with the proceeds being redistributed to the poor?
