Questions on Chilean Case

Dear Editor: Recently, the pope spoke about the responsibility of journalists. The truth or lack thereof is not the only element to take into consideration.

Your front-page article (Feb. 3) has two problems that should be considered: Bishop Barros has been accused by the same men who have accused Father Karadima, who has vehemently denied the accusations. The Vatican considered him guilty, but did not remove his main priestly privilege to celebrate Mass.

The accusers are activists, not satisfied with the conclusion of the Karadima affair, which in no case was pedophilia, given that the supposed victims were adolescents, not “boys.”
