Protest Victim

Mary_smashed

A statue of Mary lies destroyed on the ground during a demonstration against banking and finance outside the Church of Sts. Marcellinus and Peter in Rome Oct. 15. The church was the scene of violence during protests against the banking and finance sectors. At one point, peaceful protesters took refuge on the steps of the basilica as hooded extremists known as “black blocs,” who had infiltrated the rally, set cars on fire and threw stones and bottles at police vehicles. The demonstrations were seen as a worldwide expansion of the occupation and protests that are currently underway on Wall St. in Manhattan.
