Our Catholic Traditions

Dear Editor: National correspondent Christopher White reports (Sept. 9) on San Domenico, California’s first Catholic school, electing to remove traditional Catholic statues from its campus as a sign of “Articulating an inclusive foundation…”.

Letting go of a 167-year tradition of Catholic identity is disheartening and just feeds on the fear of being Catholic and proud of one’s heritage and beliefs.

Bishop John Carroll, when he founded the Catholic Church in Baltimore, admonished all that every parish should have a Catholic school, the only way to raise future generations of Catholics.

We can’t expect to survive without maintaining our traditions.
