Only In Print: Singing Mother’s Praises on Her Special Day

Carrie Underwood’s mother Carole inspired “Don’t Forget to Remember Me,” a heartfelt song of thanks.

In 1865 American poet William Ross Wallace published a poem celebrating motherhood entitled “What Rules the World.”

While the poem is largely forgotten, one line from it — “The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world” — has been quoted for generations, and in 1987 it served as the inspiration for a Top 10 country hit by Glen Campbell and Steve Wariner…
