ASTORIA — New Year’s Day was extra special for Tamara Darnley, who celebrated the holiday with her parish “family” at St. Margaret Mary Church in Astoria.

To understand the significance of Darnley’s day at the church, one must go back to 1995, when she was a newborn. That January, the story of a New York City “miracle baby” left at the steps of a Queens church made headlines.

Just days old at the turn of the new year, Darnley had been swaddled in a white bag and placed on the stairs of St. Margaret Mary Church…
