Sister Emily Donovan, S.C., a Sister of Charity, Halifax, for 76 years, died July 1 at Mount St. Vincent, Wellesley Hills, Mass. She was 97.
Formerly known as Sister Francis John, she taught sixth grade at St. Nicholas of Tolentine School, Jamaica, 1938-48, and seventh grade at St. Sebastian School, Woodside, 1952-53. She also taught at St. Aidan School, Williston Park, L.I.
She was missioned in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Nova Scotia and Bermuda before retiring to Mount St. Vincent in 1996.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at Mount St. Vincent on July 7.
Interment followed in St Mary’s Cemetery, Needham, Mass.
