Former Brooklyn Deacon Dies in N.J.

Deacon Martin B. Mulroy, who served at Our Lady of Angels parish, Bay Ridge, 1994-97, died July 6 in Somerville, N.J. He was 84.

Born in Brooklyn, he earned his law degree at St. John’s Law School and worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C., 1961-64. Then he was a member of the law firm of Hill, Rivkins, Loesberg, O’Brien and Mulroy for more than 30 years.
He was ordained as a permanent deacon for the Diocese of Brooklyn in 1994. 
After moving to the Diocese of Metuchen, N.J., in 1997, he continued to minister at the following parishes: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Three Bridges; Blessed Sacrament, Martinsville; Mary Mother of God, Hillsborough; and Our Lady of Lourdes, Whitehouse Station.
He is survived by his wife, Ann, and five children, Sheila Brown, Donna Szmak, Nancy Monteiro, Martin V. and Jim.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 11 at St. Bernard of Clairvaux, Bridgewater, N.J. 
Burial was in Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, N.J.
