Sister Joan Anna Marese, C.S.J., a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Brentwood, for 62 years, died March 1.She entered the congregation in 1957 from St. Michael’s, Sunset Park.
Formerly known as Sister Rosa Mystica, she taught at St. James, Downtown Brooklyn, 1953-60; St. Martha, Uniondale, 1960-61; Our Lady of Victory, Bedford-Stuyvesant, 1961-70; St. Gabriel, East New York, 1970-74; St. Pascal Baylon H.S., St. Albans, 1974-75; and St. Angela Hall Academy H.S., Clinton Hill, 1975-81.
She lived in Brentwood at Maria Regina Residence, 1981-85, and then St. Joseph Convent, 1985-2010.
In the course of her teaching, she attended Delahanty Institute in Brooklyn to study auto mechanics. Certification as a motor vehicle inspector and driver’s education instructor followed. She later became U.S. spokesperson for Renault Automobiles and was asked to make TV appearances on What’s My Line?, To Tell the Truth, AM America, Noon Day Live and several radio shows.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place in Maria Regina Chapel, Brentwood, March 5. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Brentwood.
