Obituary — Sister Joan Patricia McGuirl, C.S.J.

OBIT_SrJAMcGuirlCSJ_badpicSister Joan Patricia McGuirl, C.S.J., a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Brentwood, for 75 years, died Feb. 27.
She entered the congregation in 1938 from St. Rose of Lima parish, Parkville.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in French from St. John’s University and a master’s in French from Laval University, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. She also received several grants to further study in French from Central Connecticut State College, Michigan State, Skidmore College and the Foreign Language League in France.
She taught in St. Martin of Tours, Bushwick, 1940-42; St. Teresa of Avila, Prospect Heights, 1942-43; St. Agnes Seminary, Marine Park, 1942-43 and 1943-46; St. Stanislaus, Maspeth, 1946-57; Sacred Heart Academy H.S., Hempstead, 1957-59; St. Francis Xavier Academy, Park Slope, 1959-60; St. Pascal Baylon H.S., St. Albans, 1960-66; and St. Joseph Academy, Brentwood, 1966-93. She remained at St. Joseph Academy, 1993-97, working in the development office.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place in Sacred Heart Chapel, Brentwood, March 2. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Brentwood.
